One of my favourite bands ever, the Boredoms are an experimental noise group from Japan. It would be unfair to call them noise actually, as they also had a transformation that moved them from very harsh noise to increasingly spacy and tribal sounds, with lots of drumming, chants etc.
They are really hard to classify and their albums differ very much, plus, their discography is huge and all over the place, even having an EP with a 30 minute recording of a crying baby. But the usual starting points are this, Super æ
and Seadrum/House of Sun.
A very energetic, spacy and transcending album.
Good for action painting, or perhaps lsd.

Talk Talk - Laughing Stock

One of the best albums ever made, in my opinion. The epitome of excellent post-rock, this album is the culmination of Talk Talk's transformation from a generic New Wave band to what is today called post-rock. Very slow, relaxed and mellow, yet incredibly structured and complex.
Good for calm nights or rainy days.

Akron/Family - Love Is Simple

Akron/Family are a fairly young experimental folk band. Really energetic music, and its just plain fun and inspiring to listen to. I'd even call feel good music, especially this album, were "Ed Is a Portal" stands out from.
Good for anything, or when needing ideas, as it's highly visual.
Or for stoned yelling sessions with friends.

Russian Circles - Station

Russian Circles is a three piece post-rock (only a little heavier; at times can be categorized as post-metal, even) band from Chicago, pretty similar to Pelican. I'd say they're somewhat less dull since they avoid longer sludge-ish passages. They retain the epic feel nonetheless, and sound both soothing and nervous at the same time. 

Umm, they've also toured with Tool. And I really like Tool.

Awesome for returning home cold and tired. Great for relaxation, or perhaps reading.

Tuu - All Our Ancestors

~Dark Ritual Ambient~ A very interesting combination of electronic and traditional music, with a bleak, morose atmosphere. A bit new age, but very interesting to listen to, if only for instruments like water drums, clay pots, tibetan bells and gongs. Good for quiet [stoned (optional)] midnights :D

Dungen - Ta Det Lugnt

Swedish psychedelic rock with a hint of folk and indie. Very catchy and likeable.

Good for happy stoned afternoons among friends. Good for laughs.
